NEN NORM EN 179
The European standard NEN EN179 for emergency and escape doors describes the application of anti-panic equipment in rooms and buildings where limited access is allowed. Think, for example, of apartment buildings, apartment complexes, offices and storage or boiler rooms. For the application of anti-panic equipment in accordance with this standard, anyone who may be present in such a room or building must be aware of the escape routes, the location and the functioning of the anti-panic fittings. In these cases, an emergency door may be fitted with an anti-panic push pad, anti-panic stool set, whether or not in combination with an anti-panic lock or multi-point lock.
Specific requirement for emergency exit doors:
The escape door must be provided with a control with horizontal push bar or beam
must cover at least 60% of the door width.
The most important requirements for both European standards are:
• The pushing force for operating the push bar, push bar, push pad or crank set must not exceed 8 kg.
• When the door is open, no protruding or crooked obstacles may be present.
• The escape door must not be heavier than 200 kilograms.
• The escape door must not exceed 2,500 mm.
• The escape door must not be wider than 1,300 mm.
