Since 1 April 2003, there have been European Standards for mechanically operated emergency exits and panic closures. It is clear that a good organization around escape doors and proper application of the locks and hinges is required.
There are 3 Standards that define the requirements that emergency and escape doors must meet.
In both standards the essential safety requirements are set as indicated in the Construction Products Directive. The European standards EN179 and EN1125 were created with the agreement and cooperation of the Dutch standards commission in a European context. An accepted standard in the Netherlands means that the guidelines can be legally prescribed by clients of construction projects. However, there is no law here. In practice, however, guidelines are prescribed. Two standards instead of one .... When is what standard applies?
